Three Cranes

Well I finally broke the alcohol fast with a pint of Doombar at the Three Cranes - named after the Three Cranes snickelway right next to it. Doom bar is from Rock in Cornwall, and I remembered back to the time I first arrived in the Uk from South Africa when I stayed in a pub/guesthouse outside Penzance. I was there to complete a special mission to the Scilly Isles during the solar eclipse in March 2015. Here is s picture I painted of the event: The pub turned out to be a bit basic - a traditional pub with basic furnishings, loud music and busy on a Thursday evening. News item I have to say that I have not seen the "official" news today. Instead I listened to Ian Crane's latest report from Kirby Misperton where they are getting ready to frack. The local police are struggling - they made arrests of innocent protesters with all the bad publicity. Ian Crane explains this as he has seen a memo with the establishment's plan - for the local police

Introduction

The idea The idea for this blog came to me as I completed the snickelway walk outlined in the book by Mark W Jones called the Snickelways of York. The idea is to start at one of the super restaurants, cafes or bars on the route, walk the route (as outlined in my other blog - Snickelways of York) and when finished, have a meal or a drink at the venue. The idea was also to write up the visit with this blog, which would include some comments on the venue (and perhaps post on tripadvisor) and then comment on the main topics in the news today.

Last Drop Inn

After a brisk walk following a meeting at the Star Inn (unfortunately not on the Snickelway walk), for the Yorkshire Philosophy society , I started the King's Square section with the Last Drop inn. I have been meaning to have a pint here for sometime as it serves ale brewed in York itself - within the walls at York brewery. I tried Yorkshire Terrier which I found a bit hoppy. Of all the pints I have had recently I have to say good old Theakstons had been the best. The yorkshire cider served at the Star Inn comes a close second. Apparently the cider is made just north of here at the Great Yorkshire Brewery near Picketing and the apples come from Yorkshire Orchards near there. News item The story in today's times was again about Brexit - the huge pensions given to all the Meps and how much we need to pay on leaving. Well when the new financial system arrives, such payments will be small beer, so no need to get too worked up about the rip off pension scheme
